Shillong, November 17: Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are currently in the throes of a crucial electoral showdown between the BJP and Congress.

In the second phase of polls in Chhattisgarh, 958 candidates are vying for 70 assembly seats across 19 districts, while in Madhya Pradesh, over 2,000 candidates are contesting for 230 assembly seats. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Congress chief Kamal Nath are key contenders in Madhya Pradesh.

As per India Today, Chhattisgarh’s Patan constituency sees a triangular contest between Congress, BJP, and Janata Congress Chhattisgarh. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel faces off against his nephew, BJP’s Vijay Baghel, while Janata Congress Chhattisgarh presents Amit Jogi, son of party supremo Ajit Jogi, as its candidate.

Amidst the electoral fervor, chaos erupted in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, with reported firing in Mirgham village and attempts to influence voting leading to injuries. The BJP, aiming to maintain its hold in Madhya Pradesh, relies on the success of implemented schemes, while the Congress banks on anti-incumbency sentiments and corruption allegations against Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Key battles include Chouhan facing actor Vikram Mastal in Budhni constituency, and Kamal Nath against BJP’s Vivek Bunty Sahu in Chhindwara. BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya contests from Indore-1 against former Indore Mayor Sanjay Shukla of Congress. The election outcome will significantly impact the political landscape in these crucial states.
