Shillong, Nov 17: The Meghalaya Cricket Association has formally announced its 15-member squad and five standbys for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, a premier BCCI domestic one-day tournament for men.
The squad sees the inclusion of a new guest professional player, Tanmay Mishra, a Mumbai-born batter with a diverse cricketing background.
Mishra, known for his stints with Royal Challengers Bangalore and the erstwhile Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League, brings a wealth of experience to the Meghalaya team.
His cricketing journey also includes playing for the Tripura state team and representing Kenya in international cricket, a country where he spent his formative years.
His addition is expected to strengthen Meghalaya’s batting lineup significantly in the highly regarded tournament.
Meghalaya Cricket Association has opted to retain the services of two other guest professionals who have previously represented the state – Rajesh Bishnoi and Nakul Verma. With this trio of seasoned players, Meghalaya aims to put up a formidable performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The team is set to face tough competition in Jaipur, where all seven of Meghalaya’s matches will be held.
Grouped with cricket powerhouses like Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Services, Manipur, and Hyderabad, Meghalaya recognizes the need for a robust lineup to compete at this level.
The squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy differs significantly from the Meghalaya team that recently participated in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament.
Notable returns include Kishan Lyngdoh and Dippu Ch Sangma, along with the inclusion of Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva, who is yet to make his debut in a BCCI senior-level tournament.
The departure for Jaipur is scheduled for November 20, with players and officials, excluding the standbys, gearing up for the challenging competition that lies ahead in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
With the prospect of facing cricket giants, the stage is set for Meghalaya to showcase their mettle and make a mark in the cricketing arena.
