Tura, Nov 18: The venue where the three-day Wangala festival was held – the Baljek Airport has turned into a virtual garbage dumping place after stall owners left behind their garbage after the festival was over.
The matter came to light after organisers of the upcoming Me’gong festival visited the airport on Saturday to work on setting the stage for the festival to be held in December.
To their utter surprise and disgust, the area bore a rotten stink and garbage spread all over the area.
Putting the blame squarely on the Wangala festival organisers for failing to ensure the place was left better than how they received it, Me’gong festival organisers questioned the civic sense of the stall owners as well the committee members.
“This is the aftermath of the Wangala fest where the stall organisers didn’t feel like cleaning the area. This has resulted in the foul smell of rotten rice, meat, drinks etc filling the air. The stink is so bad that people can’t even cross this area without covering their noses,” said a statement from the organisers.
There were a total of over 100 stalls and a footfall of more than 1 lakh during the recently concluded Wangala festival.
The Wangala committee members however could not be contacted for comment.
