Shillong, Nov 19: Crater-size gaps, uneven and damaged patches along the stretch of road from MES office up to the junction leading to Urkaliar junction, this is the state of many stretches and pot holes making commuters even difficult to navigate the deplorable condition of roads across the city.
The MES road has been lying in a decrepit condition for the past many months and the rains have only worsened its condition.
Residents from Nongthymmai, Rynjah, Pohkseh, Nongrim Hills, Lapalang, Nongrah and other frequent commuters of the stretch have been flagging that the road has become extremely hazardous for vehicles, especially for two-wheelers due to pot holes all over the road.
Expressing their concern over the lack of initiative on the part of the MES to repair the road, commuters and residents of the areas observed that the road is located in the heart of the city and it is shameful not only for the residents but for the entire city.
According to a commuter, the road is a busy thoroughfare and vehicles have to maneuver very carefully because of the crater-sized gaps.
It may be mentioned that the road does not have storm drains at the sides hence the running water during the rainy season carries away all the macadamized black-topping.
Meanwhile, former MLA, Jemino Mawthoh recalled that he had facilitated the construction work of the road while the MES had also agreed to give the Goraline road to the PWD.
“The MES still owns the road after the bridge near Goraline till the junction leading to Urkaliar.
It will be good if the PWD also takes over the stretch of the road,” Mawthoh said.
He further said that he had tried to find out whether any step is being taken by the MES to repair the particular road.
“I was told that the MES is planning to repair the road. But I am not sure why till now the work is not being done,” Mawthoh added.
The former MLA further said that the road will no longer be motorable if it is not repaired.
