SHILLONG: The Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM) will hold a two-day ‘10 metre Shooting Talent Search’ on October 18-19.

The first day of the event will be held at St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Pynursla, while the second day will be held at St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong.

Informing that this will be the first time that such an event has been organised in the state, SAM president John Kharshiing said that the Association will be looking to spot and tap unexposed talent who could have a great future in this discipline.

“We would select from amongst the best shooters and send them for further training in this field. It is just the start in preparing budding and talented shooters to be able to compete both at the national and international level,” Kharshiing said while addressing newsmen here on Monday.

The talent search will be held in two categories – junior category from 9-18 years and an open category for those aged 18 and above for both male and female participants.

The type of weapons to be used are air rifles and air pistols, the president said, adding that these weapons will be studied by the Meghalaya police from a safety standpoint.

Meanwhile, he requested interested participants to register before October 14 for the event.
