Shillong: The Urban Shopping Complex Association has expressed concern over the closure of the ventilation shaft at MUDA parking lot at Khyndai Lad, saying the move would affect the ambient atmosphere of the parking lot . In a statement issued here recently, USCA president B Wahlang said the closure is a health hazard not only for the parking attendants but also for the users of the parking lot and is tantamount to deficiency of services since parking levy is being charged.
The association has sent a memorandum to Ampareen Lyngdoh, Chairperson of Meghalaya Urban Development Authority, mentioning about the possible outcomes of the closure of the ventilation shaft.
According to Wahlang, engineers of the National Buildings Construction Corporation constructed the unique ventilation shaft keeping in mind the huge volume of toxic gases that emanate from hundreds of cars parked under one roof.
