SHILLONG, Nov 25: The first round of the survey to identify street vendors in various parts of the city will take place from December 4 to December 16.
The survey is being conducted under provisions of the Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme, 2023.
The scheme delineated the protocols for identifying and registering street vendors via an open in-situ survey, to be executed by the corresponding Town Vending Committees (TVCs) within their respective jurisdictional areas.
The Meghalaya government has developed an application to administer the survey in a digital format. Among other things, the information to be gathered for the survey will include specifics about the street vendors and their type of business or vending, as well as the time and manner in which they operate.
The survey will be carried out gradually, with the first round taking place from December 4 to 16 in Khyndai Lad, Jail Road, Barik, Malki-Dhankheti, Laitumkhrah, and Polo.
The government and TVCs are also working together to create city/town street vending plans, which will outline the zones designated for vending and non-vending in various parts of the cities/towns.
