SHILLONG, Nov 25: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to conduct Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) deployment for airport obstruction surveys to determine whether extending the runway is feasible at the Shillong Airport in Umroi.
The AAI has been requested to carry out a comprehensive LiDAR survey and a feasibility study on the subject, according to a state government official.
Light detection and ranging, or LiDAR, is a type of remote sensing measurement technology that uses high frequency and precise laser pulse emission and recapture over a large field of view to reliably detect and localize objects in a given space.
Officials say that the survey will be conducted shortly and that it will take six to nine months to complete.
The state government has decided to concentrate on the Umroi Airport, which already has the infrastructure, rather than building a new airport.
