Land acquisition hurdle for Nongstoin ITI

SHILLONG: Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the construction of the permanent building of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Nongstoin is yet to take off since there is a problem of land acquisition.

“Initially, one of the Dorbar Shnong in Nongstoin had agreed to provide the land to the Government. But the Government decided to let go of the land as the pre-conditions laid down by the Dorbar Shnong were too much,” Lyngdoh said while replying to a question raised by HSPDP legislator Witting Mawsor in the Assembly here on Wednesday.

She said that the department has decided to acquire land near the 4thMeghalaya Police Battalion headquarter in Nongstoin.

“We have earmarked a total amount of Rs 24 lakh for the ITI which includes the compensation of land acquisition,” Labour Minister said.

Meanwhile, Mawsor however informed that there were individuals who were ready to gift lands for construction of ITI.

According to Mawsor, the ITI Nongstoin has been running in a rented accommodation for the last 22 years.

She also said that the ITI Nongstoin is running two trades-wireman and carpentry.

Earlier, in her reply Lyngdoh said that there are 10 Government ITIs and one private ITI in the State.
