SHILLONG, Nov 29: The state government on Wednesday held a review meeting on the preparations for Meghalaya Games.
The next review meeting has been scheduled for December 8 in Tura.
“Today was a review for the upcoming Meghalaya Games which will be held in Tura, West Garo Hills. There are many things to be prepared including the location of the venues, where the Games will take place, then after that the accommodation and other factors like security, water, electricity, food, materials, and so on and so forth,” said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma after the review meeting.
“We had a full review (of preparations) with the Deputy Commissioners online, and we are on track for the Games. We are hopeful that it will go very well,” he added.
Acknowledging that there are challenges as Tura does not have the necessary infrastructure to support almost close to 4,000 people including the athletes and the officials, he said, “But we are working on it and we are pretty sure that they should be able to make the necessary arrangements in time”.
He further said, “We have decided that on 8th of December, we will be having the same review into itself. So… the whole team will be going to Tura and have the review (meeting)”.
The next edition of the Meghalaya Games will be held in Tura followed by Jowai in 2024. The event is also said to be gradually turned into an annual feature.
