SHILLONG, Nov 29: A comprehensive review meeting on the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Meghalaya was held on Wednesday under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
After the meeting, the chief minister said, “In the last four years, the target for the state was roughly about 40,000-50,000 houses. This year alone, we have a target of 1.4 lakh houses. This has happened because we have been really engaging with Government of India”.
Highlighting the ongoing cooperation with the central government, he stated, “We have released the second tranche of funds, amounting to nearly Rs 800 crore, ensuring that all projects are on track. Work has commenced on almost all of them.”
Stating that the government is hopeful to meet its target of 1.4 lakh houses under PMAY for the fiscal year 2023-24, Sangma established that they have set a target to complete all the pending houses in the list with the help of the central government.
Sangma further added that the state government, with a strategic approach involving a mission director, two assistant mission directors, and district-level ADCs overseeing the mission, is dedicated to achieving this.
Regular reviews at district and chief ministerial-levels, coupled with directives for officials to make field visits and provide continuous updates, underscore the concerted efforts toward fulfilling the housing objectives.
The chief minister further added, “Completing the 1.4 lakh target this season would be a substantial achievement for the department and the government as a whole whilst addressing the needs of pending beneficiaries awaiting their homes.”
