SHILLONG, Nov 30: Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar announced on Thursday that most of the projects being carried out as part of the Shillong Smart City plan will be finished by next year.
It should be noted that the government is currently working on a number of projects, including the building of smart roads, parking lots, municipal markets, and cultural centres.
The minister, who recently returned from a trip to Barcelona in Spain, claimed that numerous projects from the European  city could be implemented in Shillong.
Informing that he would inspect some of the smart city initiatives, Dhar said, “We hope to finish construction of the new Secretariat before the completion of the MDA’s term.”
Furthermore, he mentioned that parking lots are being built throughout the city and that two more lots, with a combined capacity of 400–500 cars, were just approved close to the Secretariat.
In order to build parking lots and other essential infrastructure there, the government is also trying to take over underutilised land from various departments.
