Kohima: The Action Committee Against Illegal Taxation (ACAUT) has raised the issue of illegal taxation in Dimapur and submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland Government through Chief Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir in this regard.

Sources on Thursday said that during a meeting between the Chief Secretary and ACAUT, both the sides acknowledged the gravity of the issues.

The Chief Secretary said these issues would require time to be solved due to various reasons.

The sources added that the state government has no differences whatsoever with the ACAUT and is equally concerned to address the issues, but it would take time.

However, the ACAUT was not satisfied by the government’s reply to their memorandum and had given a month’s time to address the issues. The deadline ends on October 17.

In its reply to the government’s letter, the ACAUT had pointed out that the state government has been silent on the issue of unabated taxation by Naga political groups (undergrounds) and illegal collections by government agencies for the past four months despite the fact that ACAUT booklet on taxation was even distributed to all the members of Nagaland Legislative Assembly during the Monsoon session.
