JAIPUR/HYDERABAD, Dec 3: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday resigned from his post following his party’s defeat in the Legislative Assembly election, and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan accepted it.
The Governor has asked Rao to continue in office till the formation of the new government.
Rao’s son and BRS working president K T Rama Rao told reporters here that his father had sent his resignation to the Governor following BRS’ defeat in the assembly poll.
Soundararajan accepted the resignation of KCR and urged him to continue in office till the formation of the new government.
Rao’s resignation letter was received, and the Governor accepted it, a press communique from Raj Bhavan said. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot submitted his resignation to Governor Kalraj Mishra Sunday evening after his Congress party was defeated in the assembly polls.
Gehlot reached the Raj Bhavan here and handed over the resignation letter to the governor.
The BJP returned to power in Rajasthan on Sunday, winning 115 seats out of the 199 where assembly elections were held last week.
The Congress, which was hoping to buck the trend of the incumbent being voted out in the state every five years, bagged 68 seats. The final result of only one seat was awaited and the Congress was leading by a narrow margin there.
Ashok Gehlot on Sunday said the poll results were “unexpected for everyone” but rejected suggestions that bringing forward “new faces” would have helped the party retain power.
He lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging they incited people in the name of religion during the election campaign. (PTI)
