Malngiang leads race for KHADC chief’s post

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: Following the resignation of Chief Executive Member of KHADC, PN Syiem on Saturday, three probable names — former CEM, Manstudy Nongrem, former Deputy CEM, Lambor Malngiang and EM, Neil Antonio War — have emerged to take over the Council reins.

Leading the race is Malngiang with ‘majority’ support among the MDCs in the ruling Congress, KHADC sources said pointing out that the former deputy CEM had also become an MLA besides being elected as MDC twice consecutively.

Syiem submitted his resignation to the MPCC president and KHADC Chairman Fabian Lyngdoh on Saturday citing ‘personal reasons’.

Sources said Malngiang went to meet MPCC president Dr Friday Lyngdoh at the latter’s house on Sunday night, but no details about any meeting was available.

On the other hand, sources said, a section of the MDCs still want PN Syiem to continue. They are likely to send a letter to the MPCC not to accept Syiem’s resignation.

Though the sources indicated the CEM post would either go to Malngiang or Manstudy Nongrem for their good support base among the party MDCs, the chance of Neil Antonio War to be a surprise choice is also not ruled out.

The new CEM would be elected only after the arrival of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday, sources said.
