SHILLONG, Dec 3: In a substantial operation carried out on Saturday, vigilant troops of Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya intercepted and apprehended two Indian nationals along with two pick-up vehicles loaded with sugar near Hangaria Bridge on Hangaria-Huroi road, East Jaintia Hills.
After receiving specific information about two pick-up vehicles loaded with sugar, which were parked approximately 1 km from Hangaria bridge, the BSF carried out a special patrol in the area and spotted two vehicles bearing registration numbers ML-04D-2343 and ML-04D-6828. When approached by the patrolling team, the two drivers tried to escape taking advantage of the dark, but the vigilant troops swiftly apprehended both of them.
Upon interrogating, the detained individuals disclosed that the sugar consignment was intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The consignment was linked to individuals in Hangaria, and the vehicles were registered in the name of Queendun Suting and Ibannangroi Suting, both residents of Nongbareh Lyntiara. A comprehensive search of both vehicles led to the discovery of huge consignment of sugar in both vehicles.
Simultaneously, in a separate operation, BSF troops intercepted and confiscated various miscellaneous items worth over Rs 2 lakh, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The arrested individuals and the seized items were promptly handed over to concerned authority for further legal action.
