SHILLONG, Nov 4: The state BJP is jubilant about the win of the BJP in the Assembly elections to three states — Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh — and gearing up to put in all the effort to register a win in Meghalaya in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“It is a proud moment for the party and our national party president JP Nadda, and the general secretary in-charge, BL Santhosh along with all the workers of the party have done a tremendous job to register the win,” said senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek on Sunday.
He congratulated all the party members for working tirelessly to achieve the success.
Talking about the Lok Sabha candidate for the Shillong seat, Hek recalled that he was approached in 2014 and 2019 by the party to contest the polls. However, he was unable to vie for the seat owing to personal reasons.
He has claimed that his name has been taken again this time around.
Hek, nonetheless, said if an eligible women candidate could turn up for the seat, it would be best. He assured that him and other party workers would go all out with ground work to register a win.
Meanwhile, former BJP president Ernest Mawrie said, “We won the three state elections, especially in Chhattisgarh we didn’t expect it but we won with a thumping majority. I congratulate and thank the people for bestowing their faith in the BJP.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the face of the country and our party”.
In the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he urged the people to give the saffron party a chance, while stating that the BJP is the only party which thinks in the interest of the ST, OBC and backward classes.
It may be mentioned that the State BJP, led by party’s state president Rikman Momin, had recently announced the list of district presidents and other post holders in consultation with state office-bearers.
Party chief Rikman Momin, on Sunday, stated that the list of members of the executive committee will be finalised soon, adding that mostly former candidates will be given charge of their respective constituencies. Candidates who had performed well are likely to continue to look after their respective constituencies.
Momin stressed that the post of office-bearers and other important portfolios will be purely on the basis of performance, which, he said, would be reviewed from time to time.
He further informed that the constituencies where it had performed well, where the party has come second or third will be given maximum priority.
“Most of the candidates have been approached to reorganise their respective mandals. Our mission for Lok Sabha will be youth and women empowerment. Our party will ensure full support to the government and NGOs for challenging the drug menace,” the BJP state president said.
According to Momin, the party will ensure that the problem of drugs is taken up at the national level.
