TURA: The visually-impaired Tura Government College student, who was arrested with a group of statehood activists over the Tura DC office incident during the height of Garoland agitation in early September, has accused the West Garo Hills district administration of persecution and unfair treatment despite his reported disability. In a communique to the media through his college union, the third year Bachelor of Arts student Lucksong S Sangma pointed an accusing finger on the Tura Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi and senior magistrate Zenithsky J Sangma for his troubles and stint in the Jowai jail. “Magistrate Zenithsky J Sangma condemned me that I am not blind while he arrested me from the hostel. If I am not blind than how can I get a handicapped/disabled certificate from the Social Welfare Department?” questioned Lucksong. He also accused deputy commissioner Bakshi of falsely implicating him in a confessional statement. “The Deputy Commissioner said that I dictated the names of agitators who went to Selsella and the DC office. I never mentioned and dictated their names. I am not a leader of Selsella and how can a blind student lead the students to Selsella. I strongly condemn the DC’s statement,” said Lucksong. Demanding answers to the allegations on stone pelting in the DC office and molest of staff, the accused student has asked that evidence be shown if he is involved in such activities by way of photographs and CCTV video footage to the court. Levelling counter allegations on the administration, the accused has blamed authorities of forced entry into hostels damaging infrastructure in the dead of night while hounding out students involved in the statehood stir.
