DBC holds seminar on Road Safety

TURA, Dec 11: In an effort to raise awareness and promote road safety among the youth, a seminar- ‘On the Road to Awareness’ was conducted on Monday, for the students of Don Bosco College in Tura.

Organized by the Tura Motor Sports Club in collaboration with the Meghalaya Police, West Garo Hills District, and the District Transport Office, West Garo Hills, the seminar sensitized students on road safety and various dos and donts while on the road.

Challang G. Momin, MPS, Additional SP (Traffic), and Twilight T. Sangma, Enforcement Officer, District Transport Office were the resource persons. Both speakers shed light on crucial aspects of the Motor Vehicle Act, rules and regulations of driving, and the penalties and jail terms associated with rash driving. They also discussed the challenges faced by the traffic department in managing the city’s traffic.

Addressing the students, the resource persons emphasized the importance of community involvement in tackling the prevalent traffic issues in Tura. They specifically highlighted the students’ community as a key player in finding effective solutions to alleviate traffic problems in the city.

During the seminar, the speakers urged students to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, emphasizing that responsible driving not only ensures their safety but also contributes to the well-being of pedestrians and other road users. The resource persons stressed the need for a collective effort to create a safer and more orderly traffic environment.

In line with community involvement, the resource persons shared initiatives that encourage locals to actively participate in managing traffic issues. They underscored the significance of the students’ community in this endeavor, considering the youth’s potential to drive positive change.

The seminar concluded with an engaging question and answer session, allowing students to seek clarification on road safety-related matters and further enhancing their understanding of responsible driving practices.
