SHILLONG, Dec 12: Seng Kynthei (women organisations) play a crucial role in the war against drugs in the state, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the closing function of the golden jubilee celebration of Seng Kynthei of Jaiaw Langsning Dorbar here on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said that the Seng Kynthei can be an integral part in the awareness against drugs and de-addiction programme.
According to him, the problem of drugs is no longer restricted to any particular area or localities since it has even spread to villages. He said that it is really unfortunate that many of the youth are addicted to drugs. Meanwhile, Lyngdoh said that Jaiaw Langsning is a small locality with only seven blocks.
“But it is a locality which takes the lead in uniting the indigenous community,” the minister said.
Others present on the occasion include NPP MLA from Mawkynrew, Banteidor Lyngdoh, among others.
The Social Welfare minister also donated Rs 1 lakh to the Seng Kynthei Jaiaw Langsning.
