Teachers’ assault in WKH: Police register case of homicide

NONGSTOIN, Dec 12: Following an assault incident in which a teacher lost his life and another sustained injuries, police have registered a case of homicide.
Stating this, West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Bikram D Marak said that a manhunt is on to nap the perpetrators of this heinous crime. He also requested anybody with knowledge about the incident to share it with them.
Two teachers from Rangsapara Secondary School were attacked by unidentified miscreants while they were on their way back from Nongstoin on Monday evening.
The teachers — S Chetri (49) and TR Sangma (48) — were traveling on a motorbike when they were waylaid at Mynniar village.
The miscreants assaulted both teachers. Chetri sustained injuries and was shifted to Nongstoin Civil Hospital for medical attention.
Tragically, TR Sangma succumbed to his injuries.
It is also reported that the victims were robbed of cash during the attack.
Legal formalities were completed, and a post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, and many residents are demanding swift justice for the victims.
Police also said that the Crime Scene Unit (CSU) from Shillong and K9 Unit Dog Squad arrived in Nongstoin on Tuesday evening to collect the evidence that will lead to the suspect.
