SHILLONG: As the indefinite hunger strike called by the Ri Bhoi District Selection Commission Passed Candidates’ Association (RBDSCPCA) entered the second day on Wednesday, the health conditions of the agitators deteriorated, but there was no response from the district administration.
The Association had earlier set October 10 as the deadline for the State Government to appoint them to the vacant posts in various government offices and had threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike. Failure of the government to accede to their demands, forced them to sit on the indefinite hunger strike on Tuesday.
According to RBDSCPCA president A Syngkli, the candidates numbering 45 have resolved to continue with the hunger strike until the government pays heed to their demands.
“Recently, the government extended the validity of the merit list by three months but one-and-half month has already passed and not even a single appointment have been made,” Syngkli said, adding,
“We demand direct appointment in place of those serving temporarily or on ad hoc basis.”
“We will continue to demand for our immediate recommendation to various posts and immediate termination of all backdoor appointees,” Syngkli added.
The Association members also urged the departments to intimate the District Selection Committee, Nongpoh of any vacant post that might crop up.
