Tura, Dec 14: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) on Friday while pointing out that the state was lagging behind in everything, lambasted the Conrad Sangma-led MDA government for empty promises made during the elections.
“Data released by NITI AYOG (five years plan) reported that Meghalaya is one the worst performing states followed by Bihar and Jharkhand. The report indicates a multi Dimensional Poverty Index including Poor medical performance. In every 10 childbirth cases, at least 6 children are dying. Every Government hospitals is lacking in equipment and staff. In every 100 house at at least 17 households are without sanitary system at home and open defecation are Prevailing in both Garo and Khasi hills regions,” said MPYC President, Junebirth C Marak, while referring to a NITI AYOG report.
Pointing out that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma himself had stated during his election campaigns that Education was the top priority of the party, Marak said that the education scenario in the state was in shambles with not much being done for infrastructure, teacher appointment etc. Marak also raised the issue of pending scholarships of students as well as questioned the reason behind its delay.
