Police arrest 2 HNYF leaders

SHILLONG: Ri Bhoi police have arrested two top leaders of HNYF’s Nongpoh circle for their alleged involvements in recent arson cases during agitation demanding implementation of ILP.
The president of HNYF’s Nongpoh circle Shamborlang Nongkling (33) and general secretary Nishan Makri (33) were arrested on Wednesday morning from Lai Lad in Nongpoh.
According to sources, two HNYF leaders have been booked under Section 436/427/34 IPC and Section 8 A  of MMPO Act,   2010 for their alleged involvement in arson cases.
Earlier on Tuesday night, three other members of the organization –Heroy Nongrum, Formlistone Pariong and Khrawbor Nongrum — were arrested in connection with a separate case.
According to police, an extortion case was registered against the trio.
During a raid conducted by the federation at Marngar last week against the sale of illegal liquor, they demanded money from the shop owners.
A complaint was lodged by one shop owner from whom the trio had demanded money in the name of the federation.
However, the complainant withdrew the FIR on Wednesday morning and later a case was registered against the trio in connection with recent arson cases in the district.
