Former KSU leader passes away

Shillong, Dec 15: Former KSU leader, Glenbert Lawrence Khongwir passed away on Friday. He was 52.
His funeral will be held on Sunday at the Mawkhar Presbyterian Church cemetery, in Lawmali.
Khongwir was the disciplinary secretary when the KSU was reconstituted in 1991 under the patronage of late John Kharkrang.
He gained prominence when he was the general secretary of the union when Paul Lyngdoh was the president.
The former KSU leader continued to be part of the union till 2002 when he decided to be part of the newly floated political party, KHNAM.
During his days as the KSU general secretary, he was known to be a vocal leader.
KSU president, Lambokstarwell Marngar condoled the death of the former leader.The KSU president also acknowledged that Khongwir was among the leaders who were instrumental in reviving the union during the early 90s.
“He was always at the forefront of the movement to protect the interest of the people and was even arrested on several occasions. Khongwir continued his association with the KSU even after joining active politics,” Marngar said.
He recalled that his association with the former leader started in 1998 when he had joined the KSU as a young member.
Marngar concluded that the contribution made by Khongwir will continue to be cherished by the members of the student body.
