Jowai, Dec 17: The curtains fell on the Super Division Football Tournament 2023, also known as the U Kiang Nangbah Memorial Trophy 2023, organized by the West Jaintia District Sports Association at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Dongmihsngi Jowai. In a thrilling championship clash, 7 Wasa FC emerged as the champions, defeating Ladthadlaboh FC.
The first half of the match witnessed an intense battle where neither team managed to shake the goalposts or alter the scoreboard, resulting in a goalless 45-minute play duration.
However, the second half saw a sudden turn of events as 7 Wasa FC swiftly secured a two-goal lead. Civility Khongmalai netted a penalty on the 58th minute, followed by a precise close-range shot from Pynshai Lathong on the 60th minute.
The game took a dramatic twist when Sanki Langstang of Ladthadlaboh FC orchestrated a late comeback on the 86th minute, delaying the spectators from leaving their seats until the 90th +3. Ultimately, 7 Wasa clinched victory with a 2-1 scoreline against Ladthadlaboh FC.
7 Wasa FC received a cash prize of 50,000, while Ladthadlaboh FC took home 30,000 as the runner-up. Each player and official were also honored with mementos.Dashngain Sukhlain was awarded the Man-of-the-Match.
