MAWKYRWAT, Dec 20: After a surprise inspection of the under-construction Rilang bridge at Sohma village which connects Sohma to Diwah-Umjarain area in South West Khasi Hills, Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar on Wednesday said that there was progress in the work with an abutment already erected on one side of the river.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Tongkhar said the bridge and the Sohma-Diwah road, sanctioned by World Bank at a cost of Rs 4.50 crore, will play crucial roles as it will connect Shiliang Um Rilang area with Diwah-Umjarain area.
Till date, the people of Shiliang Um Rilang area take the route via Jashiar village, which makes the trip lengthy.
The MLA has urged the contractor to expedite the construction work, while suggesting that it should ideally be ready before the next monsoon season.
