Govt ‘ready’ to tackle any eventuality

SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to handle the current law and order situation arising out of the bandh call given by HNLC with the existing security forces.

Chief Secretary WMS Pariat on Friday convened a meeting to review the security preparedness ahead of the 36-hour HNLC bandh in protest against the visit of President Pranab Mukherjee. The meeting was attended by attended by DGP PJP Hanaman and other officials, besides NEHU functionaries.

Following the meeting, an official informed that the security forces, especially the CRPF, deployed during the Durga puja celebrations will continue to help the State Police in handling the situation.

“We have enough forces which ) we have mobilized and there is no cause for worry,” the official added.

The official asserted that the Government is fully prepared to thwart any attempt by the HNLC to disrupt peace and normalcy.

Prez visit itinerary

Apart from addressing the State Legislative Assembly on Monday, President Pranab Mukherjee will visit the Brookside Mansion at Rilbong where Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore had stayed during his visit to Shillong in 1919. The President will also pay a visit to the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures at Mawlai, a storehouse of art and culture of the Northeastern states.
