SHILLONG, Dec 21: The regional border committees on the interstate boundary dispute between Assam and Meghalaya have been given time until December 31 to submit their respective reports on the remaining six areas of differences along the border.
The extension of the report submission date was notified in a notification issued by the Chief Secretary DP Wahlang.
“In pursuance of the decision of the Chief Minister-level meeting on Assam-Meghalaya border held on September 30th, the government has extended the time for submission of the report by the three regional committees to December 31,” the notification read.
While two the Deputy Chief Ministers – Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar – are heading the regional committees for Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills respectively, Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh is the Chairman of the regional committee on border for West Khasi Hills.
Both Assam and Meghalaya governments are ironing out the difference in the six remaining disputed areas such as Langpih in West Khasi Hills, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Deshdoomreah, Block-II in Ri-Bhoi; and Block- I, Psiar – Khanduli in West Jaintia Hills District. These areas are being focused on in the second phase of border talks.
