Five arrested in TN for illegally transporting diesel to US vessel

Chennai: Five people were arrested for illegally providing 1500 litres of diesel to the Seaman Guard Ohio ship, whose eight crew and 25 guards were arrested on October 18 and remanded in judicial custody. Director General of Police K Ramanujam on Monday said 1500 litres of high-speed diesel had been illegally procured from Thoothukudi by the local agent of AdvanFort company and transported in a fishing boat to the vessel on October 11. “During investigation, ‘Q’ Branch CID arrested the five accused, who were involved in the illegal procurement of diesel locally and transporting the same in a fishing boat to the vessel,” he said. While arresting the crew, the police had left the master of the vessel and the Chief Engineer for maintenance of the vessel. (UNI)

TMC to fight all Lok Sabha seats alone in West Bengal

Kolkata: After successive sweeps in elections, the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has decided to fight the 2014 Lok Sabha elections alone, contesting all the 42 seats. “People’s verdict is out. There is no alternative to Trinamool Congress. In the last Lok Sabha polls, we contested 26 seats and won 19. This time, we will contest all the 42 and win each one of them. This is the oath we take today,” Trinamool Yuva Congress president Abhishek Banerjee announced at a programme of the organisation, held on Sunday. The announcement assumes importance as it comes from Banerjee, the nephew and a protege of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the TMC supremo. He said the party would contest alone even if all other parties made an alignment to fight against it. (UNI)

Cong leader, five others booked for widow’s gangrape in UP

Bijnor: A local Congress leader and five others have been booked for allegedly raping a widow here, police said on Monday. The FIR was registered against Congress leader Yadram Chandel and five others at a city police station here, police said. According to the widow’s complaint, Chandel and his five accomplices gangraped her on October 6, they said. The victim, a resident of Mohalla Shambha in Bijnor, alleged that she had approached Chandel, former President of city Congress Committee to help her in getting a government accommodation. On October 6, he took her to a secluded place near Ghanuwala village on Mandawar Road in a car in which 5 other persons were also sitting and raped her, she said,” police said. (PTI)
