Shillong, Jan 4: The BJP is concerned over the decision of the proscribed HNLC to withdraw from the ongoing tripartite peace talks with the Centre and State Government stating that their demand for general amnesty to their cadres was not met.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, BJP leader in-charge Meghalaya Chuba Ao appealed to the HNLC to come forward and join the mainstream since the party would like peace to prevail in Meghalaya.

He said that they had not yet gone into the details on the decision of the militant outfit to withdraw from the peace talks.

“But as a party we would like to see that there should be peace,” Ao said.

Meanwhile, BJP State president, Rikman G. Momin said that the party would like to appeal to the HNLC to come forward to have peace talks with the state government or with the Centre directly.

“We are concerned about this development to learn about this decision of the HNLC,” Momin.

He, however, declined to comment on the demand for general amnesty by the HNLC.
