SHILLONG, Jan 5: The Social Welfare department has issued a public notice inviting applications from candidates for appointment to the post of chairperson of Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
The department issued the notice despite four candidates were identified by a state government-constituted search committee last year.
The MSCW has been without the chairperson since Phidalia Toi resigned from the post in June last year.
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times on Friday that interested candidates will be required to submit their applications within two weeks.
Referring to the four candidates already identified, he said there could be others, who are more qualified and deserving but were overlooked by the search committee.
“It will give us more options since we want to appoint the best possible person to head the commission.
We also want to give an opportunity to those who have the right attitude and qualification to compete for this position,” Lyngdoh said.
He said this is the first time that the department is trying to get people beyond what the search committee recommended.
“We will see how many people come forward to submit their applications,” he added.
