Rangbah Shnong body wants Govt to set aside Tenancy Bill

SHILLONG: The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong has asked the State Government to keep the Meghalaya Regulation of Landlord and Verification of Tenants Bill, 2013 in abeyance till a thorough discussion is held with the Dorbar Shnong.

In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma here on Wednesday, Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong president TR Shanpru lamented that copies of the draft bill have been circulated to civil societies and NGOs but not to the Dorbar Shnong.

“Though discarded, we urge the Government to provide us with copies of the bill and also to clarify the motive behind the move to bring this bill immediately as it is not related to the issue of influx,” the memorandum said.

The Synjuk also made it clear that they would wait till October 31 before initiating any action in this regard.
