Guwahati, Jan 12: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve Authority in association with biodiversity conservation organisation Aaranyak today organised an interaction with members of village defence parties (VDPs) located in the proximity to Burapahar Range of the national park to woo them for real-time support for protection of wildlife.
As many as 36 members from 18 VDPs in the area participated in the interaction programme which was held with support from David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF).The programme was coordinated by Aaranyak official Arif Hussain.
The VDP members led by Naba Kumar Sarma, Circle Organizer of Village Defence Organization (COVDO), Kaliabor, were provided with 40 torch lights to help them augment vigil in the area at night against wildlife crimes, if any.
Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kaliabor sub-division, R Dutta while interacting with VDP members urged them to keep supporting the police and forest department by providing inputs that are crucial for protection of wildlife in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP& TR).
The programme was graced by Range Officer of Burapahar Range of KNP & TR, Iqbal Hussain, a retired range Officer Pradip Kumar Dev Goswami and Traffic IC, Jakhalabandha Police Station Rajen Bora.
