‘Bhogi’ smoke causes disruptions in flight operations
CHENNAI, Jan 14: Flight operations at both the international and domestic terminals here were suspended for about two and a half hours on Sunday morning as the ‘Bhogi’ smoke affected visibility, airport officials said.Both arrivals and departure of flights were disrupted, leading to diversions, delay and cancellations, they said.Three international flights, scheduled to land here were diverted to Hyderabad. A domestic flight from Delhi was also re-routed to the Hyderabad. Four domestic flights were cancelled.However, the impact on air traffic due to burning of waste was relatively minimal this year in view of sensitization and precautionary measures, they said. The Air Quality Index value on the day of Bhogi was almost the same when compared to previous years. (PTI)
Infant mauled to death by dogs
BHOPAL, Jan 14: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday sought suggestions from the people of the state to curb the menace of stray dogs after a 7-month-old boy was mauled to death recently.The child was attacked by a pack of dogs in Bhopal’s Ayodhya Nagar. A video of the gruesome incident, in which his arm was severed, went viral on social media.Yadav also directed officials to provide financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the bereaved family, who are labourers hailing from Guna district.The body of the child was exhumed, after the family held the last rites on Wednesday itself, and was sent for post mortem on Saturday, police said.Ayodhya Nagar inspector Mahesh Nilhare said the child’s mother had placed him on the ground to work nearby and a pack of dogs lurking around attacked him.After the incident, the municipal authorities caught eight stray dogs from Ayodhya Nagar.
