St. Anthony’s College NSS unit organizes camp

SHILLONG: The NSS Unit of St Anthony’s College held a one-week Camp at Nongjri Village, Umsning, Ri-Bhoi District from October 11- 18 where NSS volunteers were actively involved in Asset Creation for the village by constructing a footpath measuring at least 80 metres in length connecting the village water source to various houses.
During the camp, the volunteers also conducted a Cleaning drive around the vicinity of the School and the Community Hall of the Village.
A Free Medical camp in collaboration with the office of the DHMO, Nongpoh was also held on October 16 and the NSS Unit has extended its gratitude to the Minister of Health, AL Hek, Dr O. Jyrwa, Dr AH  Ryngksai, Dr L Lyngdoh and Dr H Lyngdoh for their selfless contribution to this noble cause.
In the leisure hours of the evening the volunteers would entertain the villagers by organizing various activities such as Football matches (Two teams representing the NSS volunteers and two teams representing the village team), Extempore Speech, Debate, Skit, Fancy Dress, Dancing and Singing Competition.
The village children were also imparted SUPW training besides Karate training, teachings on Value Education and Personality Development by the NSS Girl’s volunteers.
The final day culminated in a Special Cultural evening which aimed at showcasing the talents of both the local and NSS volunteers who were the winners of the various competitions held during the week.
It was a joyous moment for many to get to share the limelight once again before a packed audience at the village football ground. Prizes were also distributed by Programme Officers and the Headman of the village.
The NSS volunteers returned back home to Shillong on October 18 with a lot of memories and a sense of nostalgia. Many felt enriched by the experience of getting to know and learning of the lives of the people at the grass root level.
