Pro-ILP groups condole Nandwal’s death; wash their hands off incident

SHILLONG: The leaders of the various pressure groups agitating for introduction inner line permit (ILP) system in the State to regulate entry of outsiders into the state have condoled untimely demise of Vikash Nandwal, a victim of arson who succumbed to burn injuries on Saturday morning and at the same ruled out the involvement of any members of the agitating groups in the incident.

The last rites of Nandwal were performed at Hisar, Haryana on Sunday morning.

While denying involvement members of the pro-ILP groups in the case, FKJGP president Joe Marwein on Sunday blamed “opportunists who are taking advantage of the fluid situation.” Marwein warned those elements who intent to tarnish the image of the agitating groups by resorting to such kind violent act.

Interestingly, the agitating groups did not issue any condemnation after Nandwal was attacked on October 9.

“We can’t take responsibility of such incidences as we never asked anyone to commit such offences. We have only sponsored office picketing and road blockades and it is the responsibility of the State government to maintain law and order and deploy its forces in and around the city,” Marwein said.

“These incidents took place because of the failure of the law enforcement machineries of the government,” said Sadon B Blah, general secretary of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), also part of the pro-ILP movement.
