Shillong, Jan 21: Renowned Meghalaya cricketer Lakhan Singh Nahar has officially announced his retirement from the sport.
With an impressive career that spanned 17 matches for the senior Meghalaya team in various BCCI tournaments, Lakhan made his debut against Mizoram in September 2020, leaving a lasting impact by claiming 22 wickets during his tenure.
Before Meghalaya attained full membership in the BCCI, the state actively participated in cricket among various affiliate and associate teams.
Lakhan’s cricket journey includes representing the Meghalaya U-19 sides in tournaments back in 2016.
Notably, he was selected as part of a joint affiliate and associate team U-19 squad during the same year.
Beyond his contributions at the senior level, Lakhan showcased his skills in the U-23 category and left an indelible mark on Shillong’s club cricket scene.
His effusive personality and unwavering commitment to the team have made him a significant figure in the local cricket community over the years.
The Meghalaya Cricket Association’s Apex Council expressed gratitude to Lakhan for his exceptional service to cricket in the state across various categories.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Lakhan on his retirement and wish him success in his future endeavors, whether it be as a coach, trainer, umpire, or in any other capacity,” stated the MCA on Sunday.
Lakhan Singh Nahar’s retirement marks the end of a remarkable chapter in Meghalaya cricket, and his legacy will be remembered by those involved in the game.
