Kohima: With claims and counter-claims on the re- alignments for the proposed Foothill Road, the construction of the vital road connectivity that will ensure movement of vehicles from Dimapur to Tizit, has still a long way to go before the goal is achieved.

According to sources, the Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) comprising tribal representatives from the Konyak (Mon), Phom (Longleng), Ao (Mokokchung), Sumi (Niuland in Dimapur) and Lotha (Wokha) and the PWD (Roads and Bridges) Department having agreed to go ahead with the joint survey team reports, the stage is set for unveiling the ambitious project.

The road alignment that is approved will pass through Mon Sector: from Tizit HQ (Forest Colony) to Tiru-Naginimora-Dikhu river, Longleng Sector: from Dikhu river to Sethep to Yanglok, Mokokchung Sector: from Anaki ‘C’, Kangtsungyimsen-Wamakenyimsen Tuli Paper Mill (Tzudikong, AM road-NH-61-8th mile Jn. To Yachang ‘C’ via-NABARD Road-Longtho to Changki (MI Project), Northern Sumi and Wokha Sectors: from Old and New Wozhu viz Sumito to Changpang (ONGC) Merapani to Governor’s Camp (Liphayan) to Yanpha to Rengmapani to Niuland (Dimapur).

The State Government has agreed to initially provide Rs 82 crore out of which an amount of Rs 40 crore was sanctioned. However the spates of claims and counter-claims have been raised from Mon district where the Konyak Union has ‘partly blamed’ the Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) for the hue and cry raised by various groups/villages under its jurisdiction.
