SHILLONG, Jan 25: Hitting her Lok Sabha election campaign trail from Mairang on Thursday, NPP’s Shillong candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh urged voters to participate in the polls without any consideration of gender.
She urged them to treat her equally as her opponents.
“I am neither a male nor a female MLA. I am the public’s MLA. Forget that I am a female. In fact, I will work hard and also prove to you that I’m no less than the male representatives that you chose (in the past),” Lyngdoh told the voters.
“What is that being a female? Choose me as your MP based on the works I have done and achieved. Choose me because I have experience and we, as a party, have contacts in Delhi. Don’t choose me just because I’m a woman. It looks foolish. I am here today as a resident of Meghalaya and I’m confident I will fight and work hard,” she further said.
Lyngdoh, who is a cabinet minister, claimed when the NPP undertakes a task, it ensures its completion and does not abandon it halfway. She also said the party works throughout the year, not just when there are elections.
Later, she told reporters that an MP needs to get down to the grassroots level and explain and simplify political matters to the public.
“I feel good that this whole thing (campaign) is looking good. But feeling and looking good does not mean a good result. I have to walk the talk. And I’m doing it vigorously. I will be doing it every day for the next three months,” Lyngdoh said.
Refusing to criticise her opponents, she said she will not judge anybody’s performance. She said an MP has to be seen in the constituency.
