Dorbar Shnong bans illegal activities in Jowai locality

JOWAI: The Dorbar Shnong of Iawmusiang is keen on ensuring a complete ban on illegal sale of liquor and other illegal activities like gambling and drug trafficking.

In a meeting with media persons here on Monday, the Dorbar Shnong informed that they want Iawmusiang locality to be clean and free from any unwanted activities.

“Iawmusiang is the mirror of both East and West Jaintia Hills; therefore, we wish to see this place remains beautiful and free from any illegal activities,” Dorbar Shnong general secretary Ajoy Lywait said.

He informed that the Dorbar Shnong, in its general meeting held recently, resolved to warn any group or individual to refrain from involving in any illegal activities such as sale of alcohol, drugs, gambling, besides others activities within the jurisdiction of the Dorbar Shnong.

“We have volunteers to check such illegal activities and if anyone is found to violate such warning, the Dorbar Shnong will punish them accordingly,” Lywait added.

The Dorbar has also warned against use of loudspeakers at night, collection of donation and also playing of loud music in vehicles at night.

Meanwhile, the Dorbar Shnong has also requested all temporary residents of the village, who are staying in rented accommodations, to renew their NOCs and also to submit their character certificates to the Dorbar Shnong.
