Inter-college football final today

SHILLONG: Shillong College will take on Jaintia Eastern College in the final of the Inter-College football tournament at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Wednesday at 9:30am. In the semifinal fixtures on Tuesday, Shillong College defeated Nongstoin College 3-1 while Jaintia Eastern beat BBS College by a solitary goal.

SHILLONG: The 18th Survey of India all Shillong Bridge Competition was held on October 26-27 at the Survey of India Community Hall, Barik, here. In the pair event (in memory of BK Mazumder), the winners were Ajoy Kr Das and PK Nandy. Anjan Das and P Das Gupta were first runners-up, while DK Roy and LJ Singh were second runners-up. In the team of four duplicate (in memory of Maj Gen PK Gupta), Shillong Arrows Bridge Club came first, while UNBC Bridge Club were second. A pair event in memory of J Bhattacharjee was also organised by the Meghalaya Bridge Association as part of the competition. In this event, Ajoy Kr Das and PK Nandy claimed the title, with DK Roy and LJ Singh finishing second and Prabash Paul and Ranodhir Dutta were third.
Yuki wins, Divij-Raja bow out in ATP Challengers
New Delhi: Yuki Bhambri advanced to the singles quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger event in Taralgon, Australia, after his opponent Brendon Moore retired in second set of the first round match. Yuki had won the first set 6-2 and was leading the second 1-0 when the Australian qualifier conceded the match after 42 minutes due to shin pain in both legs. The Indian next faces Kiwi Michael Venus, who defeated Australia’s Dane Propoggia 6-3, 6-3 in his first round match. Earlier, Yuki had lost in the doubles first round with American partner Mitchell Krueger. They lost 4-6, 4-6 to local pair of Maverick Banes and Gavin Van Peperzeel. Meanwhile, in the Eckental Challenger tournament in Germany, top seeded Indian pair of Divij Sharan and Purav Raja made a shock first round exit. The Indians lost a hard-fought first round match 7-5, 5-7, 3-10 to local wild cards Robin Kern and Maximillan Marterer in one hour and 24 minutes. In the Charlottesville event in the USA, both Somdev Devvarman and Saketh Myneni will open their campaigns on Wednesday. Second seed Somdev is up against Samuel Groth of Australia while Myneni faces top seed and world number 84 American Tim Smyczek in his first round match. Somdev will also compete in the doubles event with compatriot Sanam Singh. They will take on American wild cards Mitchell Frank and Mac Styslinger. (PTI)
