MPDA slapped on HANM leader

NONGSTOIN: The president of Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement’s (HANM) West Khasi Hills unit Arphul Kharbani has been booked under Meghalaya Prevention of Detention Act (MPDA).

Kharbani, who was arrested in connection some arson cases in Nongstoin, is likely to be detained for a maximum of three years.

According to sources, he (Kharbani) is likely to be shifted to Tura jail.

It may mentioned that HANM president was arrested on September 26 by the Shillong Police for his alleged involvement in the torching of two office the PWD (Roads) Office and the Meghalaya Khadi and Village Industries Board at Nongstoin and an attempt to burn the Fisheries Office at Nongpyndeng, Nongstoin in the wee hours of September 9

Sources said that HANM Finance Secretary Gabriel Wahlang, who was also arrested in connection with the same arson case, is currently under judicial custody.
