Centre’s nod to Rs 550 cr project

New Delhi: In a major boost to the urban development in Meghalaya, the Centre on Thursday agreed to most of the urban development projects amounting nearly Rs 550 crore.

The decision was taken during a meeting between Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh and Union Minister for Urban Development Kamal Nath here on Thursday.

Ampareen submitted as many as seven urban development projects amounting to Rs 541.93 crore in the meeting.

Major urban development projects included Shillong Drainage Master Plan – Phase -2 (Rs.152.48 crore) and augmentation of Water Supply Scheme for greater Shillong (GSWSS) Phase II (Rs 193.49 crore).

There were also projects for Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small & Medium Towns like Jowari, Tura, Nongstoin, Resuberpara, Williamnagar and Nongpoh.

She also met the CMD of Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL) to finalize future plan of action on all pending projects with HPL. It was decided that HPL would surrender all housing projects in the state – Nongmynsong, Mawprem, and other areas including Nongpoh immediately.

The HPL has assured for a quick facilitation of handing over all projects to MUDA, the nodal agency for necessary completion before March 2015.

Ampareen met the General Manager, NBCC A Mummoorthy to discuss immediate completion of housing Projects at Tura – Dakopgre & Williamnagar. She also urged the NBCC to speed up the on-going ISBT Project in Tura.
