SHILLONG: A day after Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh’s statement that government’s door is open for discussion on ILP, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) has expressed its willingness to hold talks with the state government to break the current stalemate.

FKJGP is one of the thirteen organisations which have been agitating for implementation of ILP in the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the organisation’s general secretary Welbirth Rani said the organisation was willing to come to the negotiation table and expected the government to also show its goodwill gesture by stopping arrest of its members.

According to Rani, the deadlock has created unwanted situations for the people of the state.

Rani also clarified that the demand for introduction of the ILP was not aimed at the genuine citizens who have contributed to the socio-economic development of the state.

KSU clarifies: Meanwhile, KSU has clarified that the organisation would stick to Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation Act , 1873 which has scope for modification.

‘Modification which we have suggested is not about the main body of the regulation but modification within the ambit of provision to enforce which the State of Mizoram has done,” KSU vice president Frederick Kharmawphlang said in a statement on Thursday.
