SHILLONG: The Election Commission of India has issued notices to several candidates who contested the 2013 Assembly election in the State including sitting legislator James Sangma (NPP) for failing to submit details of the expenditure incurred during the election.An official source on Friday said that it is mandatory for the candidates to file the expenditure incurred during the election before the Commission within 30 days of declaration of the results.

The Election Commission recently issued notice to many defaulters seeking to know why they had not filed the expenditure status. “If the explanation is not satisfactory to the Commission, a legislator can even be disqualified,” the source added.
