SHILLONG, Feb 8: Following the initiative of the government with a riverfront development project for Wahumkhrah, Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek called for the protection of the tributaries of the river.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Hek said he would want the government to take measures for the protection of the tributaries which adds up to Wahumkhrah.
Pointing out that flash floods lead to huge destruction every year in the areas near the river, the government should take measures to protect and develop the tributaries of the river in the upcoming riverfront project.
The state government has already laid the foundation stone for the Rs 39 crore riverfront development project for Wahumkhrah.
The government hopes that while the riverfront development is going on, they will also be working towards a project which would involve cleaning up the Wahumkhrah, and the Umshyrpi.
