RSRS organises Resham Krishi Mela at Nongpoh

Nongpoh, Feb 8: The Regional Sericulture Research Station (RSRS), Central Silk Board MOT, Boko Government of India, in collaboration with the District Sericulture Office, Nongpoh, organised on Thursday a one-day Vanya Resham Krishi Mela at District Library Auditorium Hall, Nongpoh.
The event was graced by Shri Mayralborn Syiem MLA as the chief guest, along with various dignitaries, including Dr. KM Vijaya Kumari, Director CMER&TI, Lahdoigard, Shri Brajendra Chowdhury, Scientist-D (Retd) CSB, Shri BB Singha, Scientist-D (Retd) CSB, Smti. R.B Lyngwa, Zonal officer & I/C DSO Nongpoh, and the two Resource Persons Dr. Mahananda Chutia, Scientist-D, MESSO, Guwahati, and Shri Bitopan Das, Scientist-D, CMER&TI Lahdoigard.
The programme witnessed the participation of more than three hundred farmers, including Self Help Groups (SHGs) from different parts of Ri bhoi district. The event commenced with the cutting of the ribbon and lighting the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the Resham Krishi Mela.
In his speech, Mayralborn Syiem commended the initiative has been taken by the Central Silk Board and the Ministry of Textile for conducting the Resham Krishi Mela in the district.
He highlighted its significance as a beneficial platform for sericulture farmers in the district and emphasised the role of eri silk culture in the livelihood for women in remote areas.
Dr. KM Vijaya Kumari, Director, highlighted the mela as a platform for discussion with sericulture farmers, promoting employment and income generation potential.
She urged farmers to adopt new technologies and establish plantations of improved varieties of Eri and Muga host plants to enhance returns. The programme included the release of a booklet on Muga Silkworm Rearing and Seed Production, and awards were presented to progressive farmers of the locality.
The technical session, deliberated by scientists from CSB, concluded the programme, providing valuable insights for farmers to enhance their sericulture practices.
