ICAR distributes thousand Vanaraja birds in Mon
Kohima: As a part of livelihood improvement of poor farmers under the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the ICAR Research Complex for North East Hill Region, Nagaland centre distributed 1000 Vanaraja birds for backyard poultry farming in Naginimora, Mon district recently.
According to official statement here today, the distribution was made by a visiting team from ICAR constituting joint director and PI-NAIP Dr Bidyut C Deka, scientist (soil science) and team leader-NAIP, Dr Dibyendu Chatterjee and technical officer N C Borah on Tuesday last.
Besides distribution, the farmers were enlightened with the scientific caring and future strategy for becoming a successful poultry rarer.
Altogether 48 farmers were gathered for the occasion and on another occasion, four-day training programme on dyeing of locally manufactured garments was organised by the ICAR in collaboration with the department of clothing and textile, Assam Agriculture University (AAU), Jorhat in Assam. (UNI)
Tributes paid to Malom massacre victims
Imphal: Rich tributes were offered to victims of Malom Massacre at the memorial complex at Malom here on Saturday. Hundreds of people, well wishers and family members of the victims took part in the observation. On this day in 2000 following a bomb blast at Malom personnel of8 Assam Rifles went on a rampage and shot dead ten persons who were waiting for bus in a waiting shed. About 50 people mostly women and children who were near the blast site were also assaulted. Following the massacre Irom Sharmila shocked by the incident began an epic fast unto death demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 which gives extraordinary powers to the military. Those who assembled at the venue said the government had conducted a Judicial enquiry into the incident but the report is not yet made public nor acted upon. A case was also filed at Gauhati High Court however the case is yet to see a conclusion. Those who died included Sinam Chandramani (18), Winner, National Child Bravery Award 1988 and his brother Robin. Those who died included Leisangbam ongbi Ibetombi, (62), Gurumayum Bapu Sharma (57), Oinam Sanatomba Singh (50), Kangjam Bijoy (35), Amakcham Raghumani (34), Soibam Prakash (25), Kshetrimayum Inaocha (20), Tokpam Shantikumar (19).
