Bangalore: Opposition Congress on Tuesday demanded CBI inquiry into phone tapping alleged by Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde.

Addressing a press conference here, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) General Secretary V S Ugrappa demanded the BJP Government register a suo-moto case since Lokayukta himself had disclosed about his phones being tapped since the last three months and ”it was proved with leakage of his yet to be submitted final report on illegal mining in the State”. Referring to statement by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa writing to the Prime Minister to set up Enquiry Committee with Union Minister S M Krishna, Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and Mr Justice Hegde as members, Mr Ugrappa said ”it is only to divert attention of the public on the issue as the State has all power to register a suo-moto case and order CBI inquiry. “Why should the ruling BJP hesitate to take action. Is it to cover up its failure,?” Mr Ugrappa asked. Similarly, the Lokayukta should book a suo-moto case against leakage of its yet to be submitted final report on illegal mining as it was a cognizable offence. (UNI)
